Life on the EDGE with Coach Diana - PreCan & CanSkate Hockey Helmet Policy

PreCan & CanSkate Hockey Helmet Policy Helmets that are required on the ice for our PreCan & CanSkate Programs. Many of you have the proper Hockey/sport Helmet that is required by our Skate Canada PreCan & CanSkate Programs. It should have this symbol on the back of the Helmet.  Ski helmets unfortunately do NOT have this CSA Approved sticker on them. We have to follow our Skate Canada guidelines for Helmet and equipment. You can purchase them from Canadian Tire, and we do NOT require the cage. So it is cheaper to get just the helmet. Some Information from Skate Canada's Helmet Policy guidelines: Clubs and skating schools must ensure this policy is enforced during all skating activities including competitions, carnival days or any other special on ice activities throughout the season for this level of skater. How should the hockey helmet fit? A hockey helmet should fit snug to prevent any shifting and maximize protection. Make sure the

LIFE ON the EDGE with Coach Diana - Inclement weather

This skating season is flying by, and we are already halfway through this Fall/Winter session at 5 weeks. There will be Assessments starting in all programs around the 7-8 week mark to fit it in before we reach our 10 week session ending before Christmas. Now that Winter has made its frosty entrance, all skaters need to start wearing more layers on top and bottom. I know its fun to wear competition style dresses and skirts to practice, but its simply not practical!!  Especially at the CanSkate level & when the temperatures are dropping into the minuses, the rink becomes colder as well. Breathing in colder air, and being colder, is a physical adjustment. If your muscles are cold, you are unable perform like you usually do. Take the measures to wear extra mitts, extra sweater, a

Life on the Edge with Coach Diana

Welcome to the Fall 2017 skating season!!! Everyone is starting to get all settled into all our programs now that we are 3 weeks into our Regular Season. I am so pleased with the progress with all the skaters in such a short time, in every program. It has been a pleasure to Coach the skaters, at every level. Thought this would be a great time to talk about equipment care & fitting... Carry a small cloth or hand towel in your skating bag to wipe off the snow and wet from your blades to keep them from rusting. Make sure to Not store your guards on your skates it can cause them to rust. Think about purchasing skate soakers from Canadian tire, or from a Boutique Skating shop if you want something a little more fun. There are some really cute animals and other designs to choose from. Make sure your skates are properly sharpened. For our Jr. Academy, Jr. Star, & STARskaters please talk to me about a professional sharpener now that you are starting to wear more expensive
