Meet the Nicola Valley Skating Club Coach & Executive Members 2019/2020 Season We all share a Love for Skating, with many years of experience and memories to last a lifetime. That's what makes this Executive and Coaching Staff such a knowledgeable, dynamic & fun group to represent the Nicola Valley Skating Club in Merritt. Head Coach Diana Lorenz Skating since she was 5 years old with the NVFSC.  Junior Bronze Freeskate, & was competing at a Senior Bronze Freeskate level while achieving her Gold Dances. Diana skated Competitively in Juvenile ladies in the Okanagan Region, attending sections and was chosen as an alternate for BCGames. Also enjoying playing hockey for the past 16+ years. STARSkate Program Information Packet

STARSkate & Jr. STAR The Nicola Valley Figure Skating Club offers the new STARSkate STAR 1-5 program. STARSkate stands for Skills, Tests, Achievement, and Recognition. Skate Canada’s STARSkate program offers opportunities for skaters to develop figure skating skills in four different disciplines with the option of taking Skate Canada Tests while earning awards and incentives designed for this group of skaters.  Our program, is taught by a NCCP Certified Professional Coach in a small group format, Semi or private lessons, (optional Jr. STAR 1) and teaches skills for learning to train and practice for the sport. In addition to edges, turns, spins and jumps, skaters learn warm-up drills both on and off the ice , dance elements, Skate care and equipment requirements . Our Jr. STAR Program teaches elements from the STAR 1 disciplines. Skaters are now also given the opportunity to work on skills independently and are encouraged to obtain private or semi-private lessons...

Junior Academy Welcome to Jr. Academy!!! The Nicola Valley Figure Skating Club is excited to include the Junior Academy program. Junior Academy, an introductory to Learn how to Figure skate program, it is designed to assist the skater to transition and bridge from CanSkate to the Skate Canada STARskate Program. (Jr. STAR/STAR 1) Our Junior Academy program, is taught by a NCCP Certified Professional Coach in group format, introducing skaters to the foundations, and fundamentals of figure skating, and teaches skills for learning to train and practice for the sport. In addition to edges, turns, stops, spins and jumps, skaters learn warm-up drills both on ice . Skills & elements from the Stage 4/5/6 program of Canskate are featured and learnt during this session . It is recommended that all Junior Academy skaters participate in both days of Group lessons provided for Optimum skill progression.
